GB Claims is a licensed New York public adjusting firm based in Suffern, Rockland County, serving homeowners, landlords, and business owners across the entire state – from New York City and Long Island to Westchester, the Hudson Valley, and upstate. We represent you against your own insurance company after fire, water, storm, flood, and theft losses. We work only for the policyholder, never the insurance company, and we take no kickbacks from contractors or mitigation companies.
One thing before anything else: call us before you file the claim. You can call us after too – but it makes a real difference whether we file it for you or it goes in without us. Filing it the wrong way is a common mistake that costs real money. Get us in first and it gets filed correctly.
What a New York public adjuster does for you
Your policy is a contract, and proving what you are owed under it is your burden, not the insurer’s. The company sends its own adjuster to protect its side of that contract. A public adjuster is the licensed professional on your side: we inspect and document the damage, prepare the estimate, handle the paperwork and the carrier’s questions, and negotiate the settlement. Most policyholders find the process takes over their lives for months. We take it over instead.
New York law gives you real protections
New York licenses public adjusters through the Department of Financial Services, and it caps what a public adjuster can charge: by regulation (11 NYCRR 25.7), the fee cannot exceed 12.5% of the settlement amount. There is no upfront fee with GB Claims – we are paid a percentage of what we recover for you, so if there is no recovery, there is no fee. New York policies also carry an appraisal clause in most property forms: if you and the carrier disagree on the amount of the loss, either side can demand appraisal, and we use it regularly to break lowball settlements.
Claims we handle across New York
- Burst pipes and water damage – freeze breaks, supply lines, hidden leaks behind walls
- House fire and smoke damage – structure, contents, and additional living expenses
- Storm, wind, and roof damage – nor’easters, ice dams, and hurricane remnants on the coast
- Flood damage – including NFIP and private flood policies
- Theft and vandalism – including claims the carrier questions or slow-walks
- Commercial property claims – buildings, inventory, and business interruption
- Denied and underpaid claims – we reopen, supplement, and fight for what the policy owes

Frequently asked questions
How much does a public adjuster cost in New York?
New York caps public adjuster fees at 12.5% of the settlement by regulation. GB Claims charges no upfront fee – we are paid a percentage of what we recover, and the initial claim review is free.
Should I call a public adjuster before I file my claim?
Yes – that is the single best time to call. How the claim is first presented shapes everything after it. We file it correctly from day one, document the damage the right way, and keep the carrier from framing the loss in a way that shrinks your settlement.
Can you help if my New York claim was already denied or underpaid?
Often, yes. We review the denial or the low offer, re-document the loss, and pursue supplements, the policy’s appraisal clause, or other remedies. A denial is frequently the start of the negotiation, not the end. The review is free, and we will tell you straight if the claim is not worth pursuing.
Do you handle claims outside Rockland County?
Yes. We are based in Suffern and handle claims across all of New York State, including New York City, Long Island, Westchester, the Hudson Valley, and upstate, as well as New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut.
